Battle

Battle (배틀) is a Korean boy band that debuted on December 17, 2006 with the release of their first single "Crash". They are most popular for winning the reality show, Let's Coke Play! Battle Shinhwa! The group includes Ryu, Tae-hwa, Lio, Shin Ki-hyun, Chris, and Hwi-chan.

Members

Ryu (Won Seung-jae), 20, picked by Andy of Shinhwa, is the oldest among the six and the leader. Having been a model, he decided to put his catwalk days behind him to concentrate on his music and on a possible acting career.

Ki-hyun (Shin Ki-hyun), 20, who stands at an intimidating 187cm, often slouches to look the same height as his fellow members. Kihyun loves playing soccer and is competitive at heart. Chosen by Shinhwa's member Eric, Ki-hyun contributes his talent in rapping to Battle’s songs but he has worked on his vocals and now sings some small parts in their songs.

Lio (Park Ji-woon), 20, was chosen by Jun Jin of Shinhwa and was also featured in Junjin’s first solo album. Having studied in China, Lio is fluent in Mandarin and is currently studying English. Armed with a mischievous smile, Lio is considered to be one of the best dancers in Battle, charming fans with his smooth moves and lopsided grin. He was featured in Jun Jin's solo debut under the track "Come Back."

Tae-hwa (Jin Tae-hwa), 19, is the best dancer in the group, chosen by Shinhwa's own choreographer and dancer Min Woo to be part of Battle. During “Let’s Coke Play! Battle Shinhwa!” the popularity award was bestowed upon him. He has a great voice which is used on all of Battles songs.

Hwi-chan (Kim Taek-wan), 19, replaced Shinhwa member Dongwan’s initial choice, Jang-hyun. After Jang-hyun decided to head to college instead, Hwi-chan stepped in and joined Battle, providing his strong, melodic voice to the group. Having lived with his grandma for most of his life, because Hwichan's parents worked long hours, he received devastating news that she died not long after he was eliminated from the show.

Chris (Jung Hyung-rok), 18, is the mangnae of the group and was picked by Hye Sung of Shinhwa. Though he was born in Seoul, he and his family moved to California when he was young. He attended Burbank Elementary School, Ross Middle School, Gahr High School, and then Torrance High School. Rather like the mother of the group, Chris loves to cook for his fellow members, and lends a soft, sweet-catchy voice to Battle.

Shinhwa

Shinhwa (Korean: 신화) is a popular South Korean boy band and hip hop group. The group has six members (with 3 vocalists and 3 rappers), and debuted on March 24, 1998. It has enjoyed massive success alongside the likes of Sechs Kies, Baby Vox, Fin. K.L., H.O.T. and S.E.S., but while the other bands have since disbanded, Shinhwa continues to release albums with high sales. Shinhwa is the Korean word for myth or legend.[1][2][3] Notable for being the longest-running boy-band in South Korea, the group has released ten studio albums (nine Korean and one Japanese album), one Greatest hits album, four compilation albums, and four singles (three Korean and one Japanese single).

Initially formed under SM Entertainment, Shinhwa signed a new contract with a new record label, Good Entertainment, in July 2003. While still under Good Entertainment as Shinhwa, each of the members (excluding member Eric Moon) have all left the entertainment to start their own to concentrate on their solo activities, from acting to going solo. Aside from singing and performing as a group and individuals as well as acting, the members of Shinhwa are also mentors to the Korean boy band Battle.

Shinhwa is also well-known outside the Korean border and has one of the largest active fan clubs throughout Korea and Asia, suitably named "Shinhwa Changjo" (신화창조 literally meaning "mythical creation"). While known best in Asia, they have also performed in different countries of the world, including the United States, Australia, China, Taiwan, North Korea (though their performance was not well-received[4]), Singapore, and Japan.

SG Wannabe- Album

1st album: Wannabe+ (2004)

SG Wannabe debuted in 2004 with their first album, Wanna Be+. It was produced by Lee Kyung Sub and Park Keun Tae, two famous music producers in Korea. The title track's music video for the album attracted media attention, as it featured top actors such as Seol Kyung-goo and Kim Nam-jin, and actresses Kim Yoon-jin, Kang Hye-jeong, and Seo Sung-min. The production costs were reportedly about 2 billion won. The group gained a reputation for being quite mysterious because they did not show their faces and did not star in any of their music videos. Nevertheless, their vocal abilities attracted many fans, and the album was an instant hit with pre-sales of 90,000 copies. Later in 2004, the group was recognized for their vocal ability with numerous awards, including nominations for Best Newcomer at the Golden Disc Awards and the Seoul Popular Music Awards.[3]

2nd album: Saldaga (살다가) (While You Live) (2005)

On March 29, 2005, SG Wannabe released their second album. It included the two #1 hits "Sin & Punishment (죄와벌)", which received numerous awards both for the music video and for the song itself, and "살다가 (While You Live)". Like its predecssor, "Saldaga" was able to attract media attention for the group's vocal ability, thus SG Wannabe became the only artist in 2005 to sell more than 400,000 copies of their album. On September 14, 2005, the group released the "Classic Odyssey", their 2.5 album. 1 billion Won (₩1,000,000,000) budget went into SG Wannabe's new remake album. It included hits such as "My Heart's Treasure Box" (내 마음의 보석상자). To top off the success of their 2nd album, SG Wannabe was awarded the prestigious Daesang (the "Artist Of The Year") from the Golden Disc award. When 2005 was over, SG Wannabe were ranked at #1, with over 400,000 copies sold of their 2nd album, and 12th, with 147,047 copies sold of their remake album on the year-end chart.[4]

3rd album: The 3rd Masterpiece (2006)

On April 11, 2006, the trio released the long anticipated 3rd album, called "The 3rd Masterpiece". Just like what they did in the second album (the music video had two parts; the first part was with the song "Crime and Punishment" (죄와벌), while the second part was with the song "As We Live" (살다가)), their third album also contained two-part music videos. The first part was with their new title song, "Partner for Life" (내 사람) starring Shinhwa's Kim Dong Wan and also featuring Jeong So-Young, and the second part was released with "Slowpoke" (느림보). Once again, the album manage to chart high, reaching #1 on numerous charts.

On November 18, 2006, they released a Greatest Hit's Compilation entitled "SG Wannabe Best Album - The Precious History." It was a collection of their favorite songs from the past 3 albums and also included 3 new songs. They also released a music video for those songs which was called "Song of Love(사랑가) featuring Vibe", "Even If I Could See You (그저 바라볼 수만 있어도)", and "Ordinary People" featuring Hoo Ni-Hoon, Min Kyung-Hoon, Jang Hye-Jin. The music video starred singers Lee Bum Soo and Nam Gyu-Ri from female trio, See Ya. However, despite having high sales and topping the charts, they did not win another , though the group was nominated daesang. Another male group with more success and higher album sales, Dong Bang Shin Ki, swept four daesangs.

4th album: The Sentimental Chord (2007)

Their highly anticipated 4th album, "The Sentimental Chord", was released on April 6, 2007, almost a year after their 3rd album. Again, they amazed the audience with their new title song "Arirang" (아리랑), which had the classic instruments of Korea playing as the background music. With the release of their 4th album and their title song, they went as the #1 in the Bugs Chart as well as the Korea monthly chart. The album was also number one on the "Top 20 Album Sales (May 2007)" with 44,618 copies sold in May and 125,450 sold altogether.[5] They also released two special albums, "SG Wanna Be+" and "Story In New York." Both the special album manage to be successful as well, continuing SG Wannabe's popularity and success. Towards the end of the year, SG Wannabe was awarded their second daesang from the Golden Disk Awards, reigning as the top artist of the year. Selling almost 200,000 copies, The Sentimental Chord was the best-selling album of 2007 in Korea[6]. In addition, several changes also occurred within the band, with member Chae Dong Hae leaving the group in order to focus on a solo career. [7][8] Chae Dong Ha made his acting debut in Kim Jong Wook’s music video for “Only You,” which is the new singer’s follow-up single after “Bad Guy."

5th album: My Friend (2008)

As of April 23, 2008, SG Wannabe's fifth album had 85,000 pre-orders and counting. The album is slated to be released on April 24th with fourteen new tracks, including a Japanese version of "I Miss You" (보고싶어). Both version of "I miss You" (보고싶어) was recorded with their former member Chae Dong-Ha. The Korean one was recorded with 4 people and the Japanese version was recorded by the original members.[9] SG Wannabe's new member, Lee Suk Hoon, also made his debut performance on April 24th on "M!CountDown", singing the first track, "Lalala", on the new album.

SG Wannabe

SG Wannabe or SG워너비 (the SG representing Simon and Garfunkel) is a popular South Korean Ballad trio that debuted in 2004 with their song, "Timeless". The group quickly became popular and the song, along with the music video, was played on cellular phones all over Korea[1], and their album topped the charts. Unlike other groups, SG Wannabe decided to abstain from promoting their music initially, declining to appear on music shows or in their own videos; the group has stated that they wish their audience will care more about the music, rather than the appearance.

Lee Hong Gi hit the hospital?

Lee Hongki of 5-member rock band FT Island has finally hit the hospital for treatment on the afternoon of December 30th (Korea).

FT Island's rep stated:
Due to the concerts and busy end of year schedules, the members were extremely exhausted. Lee Hongki was affected the most and therefore was admitted into the hospital, where he will rest until January 1st. We will then head off to Japan to continue our promotions there.

Lee Hongki's unhealthy condition was extremely evident at the 2008 SBS Gayo Daejeon show, where he was still able to put on a stellar performance, although sounding very raspy and losing his voice towards the end. Here's to a speedy recovery in the new year!

SS501

SS501 (pronounced as Double-S 501) is a South Korean boyband under management of Daesung Entertainment, also known as DSP Entertainment. SS501 stands for Superstar and unison of its 5 members until eternity (symbolized by the 0) as 1.

HISTORY

SS501 debuted in 2005 with their first single "경고" ("Warning"), with a second single "Snow Prince" released in late 2005. The group was inactive in Korea for most of 2006, although they had a fan meeting in Japan in April[1]. The hiatus was due to Heo Young Saeng's throat condition which required surgery, thus resulting in a need for time to fully recover.[citation needed]. In mid-2006, they held their first concert, "Step Up Concert" in Osaka, Japan. In late 2006, they returned to Korea in order to promote their first full album, which was released on November 10. Singles from the album included "Unlock" and "Four Chance". As well as promoting the album on various variety and music shows, they also filmed a show on MNet called SOS. On their 600th day (January 28, 2007), they won the Mutizen award from SBS Inki Gayo for their song "Four Chance".

Later in 2007, the group debuted in the Japanese market. A Japanese fanclub has been established with the name of "Triple S Japan"; it officially debuted on March 25, 2007, when SS501 will had first official meeting with the group. In Korea, their fan club members number around 41,700[citation needed]. The group had a Japanese single "Kokoro", which had multiple versions, including one with all members and five others featuring the members individually. The single debuted at #5 on the Oricon chart.[citation needed] A full album was released later in the year.

In 2008, SS501 returned to Korea with their single Deja Vu released on March 8, 2008. The title track was the first song to be promoted, and they started their comeback on music channel M.Net's M Countdown.[1] After success with their single "Deja Vu", they began to promote their second single, "A Song Calling For You". They performed their Goodbye Stage on Music Bank on June 6th, 2008, to return to Japanese activities.

SS501 member Kim Hyun Joong was cast as the F4 member Hanazawa Rui in the Korean version of Hana Yori Dango, which is scheduled to be broadcast via KBS 2TV in the first half of 2009 with a total of 24 episodes. According to an official from Group Eight, the production house in charge of the drama, Kim Hyun Joong was selected to play Rui because he was deemed suited for the character. The decision was based on his performance in the MBC program “We Got Married” where Kim Hyun Joong is being coupled with singer Hwangbo.

On October 2, 2008, an official announcement confirmed Hyun Joong as part of the cast for Hana Yori Dango.

Due to two of the members' busy schedules, Jungmin performing in a musical and Hyun Joong filming a drama, SS501's album, originally due for release in late 2008, was to be pushed back to April 2009. Instead, a subgroup SS501 is formed(They decided to use the same name.) with the remaining members and a mini album UR Man released on November 25, 2008.

The original group, with all five members, is scheduled to debut in late April 2009.

Expanding overseas and solo activities

After the breakthrough success in South Korea, Big Bang ventured out overseas towards Japan. Kicking off 2008, their first Japanese album For the World was released, with previous singles appearing on the album, in addition to a Japan-only song, "How Gee" (a new remix version from "How Gee" by Black Machine). All their previous songs were also re-recorded in English.[17] For The World debuted at #14 on the Oricon chart (the official music chart in Japan) and eventually crawled its way to #10, despite lack of promotions.[18] On the 28th and 29th of March, Big Bang held their own concert in JCB hall in Tokyo Dome City. The group then proceeded to release a 4th mini-album in late May titled With U, with a corresponding single of the same name. Aside from the title single, the mini-album included many of their earlier hits, such as "Last Farewell" and "This Love", rerecorded in English. The solo song "My Girl", sung by Tae Yang, was also rerecorded into Japanese.

Upon returning to Korea soon after their Japanese activities, the members separated into their own individual solo activities. While the youngest member, Seungri, tried his luck in theatre by starring in musicals such as Sonagi (based on the popular, classic novel) earlier the year and is set to act in his first movie, "Why did you come home?" starring Kang Hae-Jung (which will release in theaters in November), member Tae Yang finally released his anticipated solo mini-album, Hot, which proved to be a success, topping online and public charts with its lead single, "Look At Me Only". The decidedly R&B album and its lead single was heavily choreographed with dance moves that were later parodied by many comedians. G-Dragon soon after released a digital remake version of the single entitled "Look Only at Me 2", which was not as heavily promoted. Instead, G-Dragon spent much of the first half of the year composing and producing songs for other artists, such as collaborating with pop-star Uhm Jung Hwa in her album, Disco. Dae-Sung also released a digital single — surprisingly, it was a trot number titled, "Gwisoon, Look at Me" (a composition-gift from G-Dragon) that was rather successful. While promoting the single, he spent time on variety programs, regularly appearing in SBS Yoo Jae-Suk's "Family Outing". T.O.P, on the other hand, collaborated with several artists, being featured in several popular singles such as Gummy's I'm Sorry and Uhm Jung Hwa's Disco.

On August 8, 2008, Big Bang reunited to release their 3rd mini-album, Stand Up — which featured collaborations with the group Daishi Dance, and Korean rock-band No-Brain in their latest punk rock single Oh My Friend[19] — promoting it with the lead song, "Day By Day" (하루하루). Like previous albums, leader G-Dragon was heavily involved with the production of the album, having compose and written a majority of the songs with the exception of "A Good Man" - which was composed by fellow group member T.O.P. The mini-album had exceeded the 100,000 mark for sales, a breakthrough for the group.[20]

Stand Up has so far yielded some of Big Bang's strongest singles, with the lead single "Day By Day" topping several online charts[21] and staying at the number-one spot for 6 consecutive weeks.[22] In addition, severals of their songs also made it to the Top 20 of the charts, with "Heaven" at the number two spot, "Oh My Friend" being ninth, "Nice Person" at twelfth and "Lady" being sixteenth - a total of five songs in the Top 20 for the group.

On the 6th of October 2008, Big Bang's title track "Number 1" from their album of the same name was leaked onto the internet. This is their 3rd Japanese album, and their first full one.

On Oct. 22, 2008, Big Bang's "Number 1" reached 3rd on Japan's Oricon album chart.

A few months after Stand Up, Big Bang was propelled to make another album. Now Big Bang has put out a album titled Remember. The album contains songs from their past album which have been remixed or modified. It contains new songs such as Sunset Glow (붉은노을), a song that has been redone by many artists. It also features a song called Strong Baby, a solo by Seung-Ri. The song Sunset Glow has reached number 1 in many charts and many of the album's songs are rising in rank. Another song which became a hit was Oh Ah Oh(오아오) Marking the end of their promotions for group song: Sunset glow, Big Bang's member Seung Ri will continue with promotions of his solo song. Strong Baby is an upbeat pop song that will allow Seung Ri to showcase a mature image of himself through dancing in which he has choreographed the routine himself.

Big Bang- Last Farewell

"Lies"

On February 8, 2007, Big Bang released their live concert album entitled 1st Concert Live Album - The Real, which sold 26,787 copies by the end of 2007.[9] From May through to July 2007, the group also held their first national tour concert in Korea, with the headline Want You, touring a total of five cities: Incheon, Daegu, Changwon, Jeonju and Busan.

Despite being fairly new, the members dissolved into their own solo activities for 2007. Lead vocalist Tae Yang was expected to release a solo single in September 2007, which would have made him the first member to do so. According to representatives for YG’s Yang Hyun-suk, this solo endeavor came about as a result of Tae-yang’s recent performances as well as his vocal contributions to another artist under the same management Lexy’s album.[4] Despite the rumours, it would be a year later that Tae Yang would release his solo album. Another member, T.O.P. (Tempo), was also cast into the drama I Am Sam and was also featured in Red Roc's music video for "Hello," where he shaved his hair. Other Big Bang members have featured in various songs, with Dae Sung in Nemo's digital single, "이제,우리.." ("Now, Us"), released on October 15, 2007. G-Dragon was featured in "So In Love Part 2" and Tae Yang in "조금만 사랑할걸" ("I Should've Loved You only a Little"), both songs from renowned Korean artist Kim Jo Han's album Soul Family with JOHAN, released on October 25, 2007.

After the solo activities, Big Bang rejoined together to released the first of their mini albums in August, entitled Always, with the group holding a Showcase/Fanmeeting for promotional activities. Taking control over their music, leader G-Dragon took charge on producing and writing some of the songs on the album. The mini-album was released to positive reviews from fans and critics alike, especially the song "거짓말," ("Lies") which group leader G-Dragon wrote and composed.[10] The song became the group's first song to be a breakout hit, reaching number-one on SBS's Popular Songs show on September 9, 2007, their first to do so, follow by MBC's Music Core, KBS's Music Bank and Mnet's Countdown and numerous online and offline charts for many consecutive weeks. However, despite the success, G-Dragon was accused of copying a chord from FreeTempo's "Sky High" for "Lies". Avoiding the controversy, Big Bang then went on to release their the title track from Always as their second single, with the music video being filmed in Hawaii. The music video was released in November 2007.

The mini-album was successful enough for Big Bang to collect numerous awards by the end of 2007, including "Best Male Group" and "Song Of The Year" from the 2007 M.NET/KM Music Festival.[11] Later in 2008, Big Bang also collected the prestigious "Daesang" from the 17th Seoul Music Awards.

To capitalize the success of their mini-album, Big Bang announced that they were going to release an official album in November; however, another mini album was released instead, entitled Hot Issue. The album yielded another strong single for the group, "Last Farewell," mirroring the success of "거짓말 (Lies)" and topping various music charts and winning "Song of the Month Digital Music Award" from Cyworld yet again, beating strong competitors such as Girls' Generation, Wonder Girls and F.T. Island. It also topped Juke-On's chart for eight consecutive weeks.[13]

Big Bang held their second round of concerts on the 28th of December to the 30th, with the headline Big Bang Is Great, where tickets were reportedly sold out in 10 minutes.[14] Despite this, various members were hospitalized due to sickness and injuries from over performing and exhaustion,[15] thus halting and limiting their promotional activities for a while. A representative for YG Entertainment then addressed the issue by stating that though the group would perform at the MBC Music Festival on the 31st, they would cancel everything else on their schedule for the first week of next year. It was later reported in the year that Big Bang's albums and singles have been in high demand, causing the record company to reprint and repackage it for re-releases.

Debut and success

Prior to the release of their first album, the group had a unique release schedule, with three EPs released within a span of a few months. Big Bang released their first single, The First Single Album, on August 29, 2006, spawning the Top Ten-hit single "This Love", a remake of the American boy band Maroon 5's own single.[1] The single debuted with 17,159 copies sold in the month of August[5] and later went on to sell approximately 39,655 copies[6]. Big Bang's second single Big Bang is V.I.P. was released a month later on September 28, 2006, selling 21,000 copies in that month.[7] It finally netted sales of 32,503 copies.[6] On November 22, 2006 they released their third single entitled B I G B A N G 0 3, following the success of their previous singles with the final sale of 29,138 copies.[6]

Later in the year, Big Bang's own official fan club was created, calling themselves the "V.I.P." (in reflection of their second single "Big Bang is V.I.P."). Unlike other fan clubs, Big Bang's fans do not have a balloon color for showing support at concerts; instead, fans wave black and white BB (obviously standing for Big Bang) handkerchiefs/bandannas.

At the end of December 2006, Big Bang held their very first concert titled The Real. They also released a music video of their song "My Girl", which featured member Tae Yang as the soloist. The following month, their first debut album Since 2007, which was essentially a compilation of songs from their previous singles, was released; it sold 48,009 copies by the end of February 2007.

Pre-debut

Before Big Bang's major debuted, each member had his own degree of success and popularity in the entertainment industry. Leader G-Dragon and lead vocalist Tae Yang have already been with YG Entertainment since they were both twelve years old, both known as GDYB back then (Tae Yang's real name is Young Bae).[4] Member T.O.P was well known as an underground hip-hop rapper while Seung-ri was first introduced to the entertainment industry through the show Let's Cokeplay Battle Shinhwa.[4]

After the lineups for the group was finally made, the television network M-net released an eleven episode documentary that showed the members in training before their debut as an official group. The first six episodes detailed each individual member's background and motivation for becoming a singer. The documentary portrayed the arduous process of training by showing their dancing and singing practice sessions. Beyond being just a behind-the-scenes reality show, the series also eliminated various candidates unfit for Big Bang. Two members, SO-1 and Seungri (Lee SeungHyun) were considered for elimination, but they were given second chances to showcase their abilities in singing, dancing, and performing. However, this eventually resulted in Yang Hyun Suk (the CEO of YG Entertainment) dropping SO-1 because he lacked stage presence and was "too shy".[4] On the other hand, Seungri was able to successfully impress Yang with his dancing and singing skills, thus making the group. This documentary made the group members even more known before their debut in the Korean entertainment industry as Big Bang.

Before deciding on an official name for the group, the members had suggested several names, such as "Apex", "Stump," and "Diamond" before deciding upon "Big Bang."[4] To celebrate the end of the trials and the official lineups, producer and founder of YG Entertainment Yang Hyun Suk gave each the member a custom pendant.[4] Big Bang made their official debut at the YG Family concert, held on August 19, 2006 at the Gymnastics Arena in Seoul Olympic Park

Big Bang

Big Bang (Korean: 빅뱅) is a Korean hip hop & R&B group composed of five members, each contributing different vocal or rapping parts. When they first debuted, they were considered to be the new face of the YG Family, a pet name for their management company YG Entertainment.[1] Although their debut was somewhat successful, it was not until the release of "거짓말" ("Lies") that the group shot into super stardom.[2] Big Bang have been noted for their music as well as their taste in fashion, becoming famous throughout the country in the process.[3]. They write and produce their own music unlike many other kpop groups.

Controversy over 4th Korean Album

In November 2008, the Commission of Youth Protection judged TVXQ's 4th album, Mirotic, as being detrimental to youths, declaring that the lyrics were provocative and overly sexual; as a result, the album was required to be labeled with stickers indicating that it was “unsuitable for people under 19 years old” and any performances of the song would have to be broadcast after 10 PM.[55]. In addition, the company was required to release a "clean" version of the song[56]. In response, SM Entertainment filed a legal case against the ruling to the District Court.

TVXQ's management company, SM Entertainment, has claimed that, "We will go through administrative measures against the suspension by filing a case next week to the District Court... We have been getting ready for this legal case on the 2nd [of December]."

"We have agreed to release a clean version of '주문-MIROTIC' by the administrative order, but this is something we do not agree with and feel [the ruling] is entirely unfair. Therefore we have decided to file a case to the court against the administration's disclosure."

After the Commission of Youth Protection released their statement regarding the ban on the album, SM Entertainment said, "Even before when the order had been put against MIROTIC, we have clearly negotiated and tried to explain the real meaning and explanation of the lyrics, but even after this the results came out unexpectedly and we are bewildered as of this moment... the 주문-MIROTIC's lyrical meaning is entirely different and miles away from the erotic or sexual that the association is making it to be." [57]

The clean version of the song contains the lyrics "I've got you/under my sky" as opposed to the original, "I've got you/under my skin," and "널 가졌어 (I got you)" to "널 택했어 (I chose you)"}}

Custody battle over Hero JaeJoong

On November 21, 2006, a man by the last name of Han filed a lawsuit against Hero's current legal guardians. Han claimed that he was the biological father of Hero, and thus wanted parental rights.[52]

Han cited the reason for the lawsuit against Hero's legal guardians as "for not going through the proper procedures before registering [Hero] in [the legal guardians'] custody."[53] He divorced Hero's biological mother in late 1980s, and gave up his custody over his child, leaving him under Mrs. Han's custody. However, he had found out some years ago Hero had been raised by a third party, not his biological mother. A DNA test was to be performed in order to prove validity of Han's claim. Many legal consultants comment that since the adoption had taken place correctly according to the corresponding law, no legal change will be involved regardless of the outcome.

The first hearing was to be held in Kongju, Hero's hometown on November 29, 2006. The fans of TVXQ were generally appalled by this news, questioning why Han did not privately contact Hero regarding this and why he did not keep in touch with his son before he rose to fame.[52]

On November 22, Han dropped the charges against Hero's legal guardians. Han said that he originally intended to resolve his biological son's military duty conflicts after being informed of dual citizenship by Ministry of Military Affairs, which involved verifying the fact that he is the biological father. He did not expect his intention to lead to such a scandal, and states that he was scarred by speculations that he wanted to take advantage of Hero's fame.

In reaction to the matter, Hero uploaded a journal entry on his official fan club website, and said that he was informed of the existence of separate biological parents by his mother two or three years ago, and it had been quite a shock to him. With his current mother's support, his biological mother has been able to keep in touch with him, and to meet occasionally, but whereabouts of his father had been unknown.[44]

He vigorously expressed his will to live by the name of "Kim Jaejoong," not by his birth name Han Jaejoong (한재준), and promised to be loyal to all four of his parents. He also said he did not want his family history exposed to the public due to this incident.

Park Yoochun-Micky

One year before the group's debut, the final member, Park Yoochun was added. Park Yoochun grew up in Seoul and immigrated to the United States with his parents when he was in the sixth grade.[42] He lived in Fairfax, Virginia for roughly four years before he auditioned for Brothers Entertainment and was sent to Korea to SM Entertainment. Micky was Park's English nickname when he lived in Virginia. As the winner of a talent show, he was granted the opportunity to sign with SM Entertainment in Korea. He now performs under the stage name Micky Yoochun.

Shim Changmin- Max

Shim Changmin was grouped with the youngest participants in the audition. Like Xiah Junsu, he impressed the judges with his powerful voice. He joined the group under the name Choikang Changmin. Choikang in Korean means "Most Powerful", or approximately, "the best"; "Max" became an international rendition of this name.

Kim Jae Joong- Hero

Kim Jaejoong left his hometown in Chungnam to audition for SM Entertainment. Having left the shelter of home, he experienced poverty and strife before becoming a celebrity. Kim debuted as Youngwoong Jaejoong. Youngwoong is the Korean word for "hero." His manager picked the name for him because he wanted him to be the hero of the music industry. Kim took first place in an audition of 5000 people, both in best looking and best vocals.

Jung Yunho - U-know

The group's second member, Jung Yunho, secured his spot in TVXQ through a dance competition in which he won first place. After his selection he gained some experience in the midst of spotlight by being a rapper and backup dancer for K-pop singer Dana- who is now no longer a solo but a member in The Grace. As a dancer, he accompanied many Korean singers, traveling to China as well. Jung debuted as U-know Yunho. His chose his stage name as "U-know" from his Korean name "Yun Ho"; U-Know is pronounced "You know" in English. However, it is meant to mean "Yunho 'Knows You'" in regard to his understanding of the other members as the leader of TVXQ.

http://en.wikipedia.org/

Kim Jun Soo-Xiah

The first member to join was Kim Junsu. At the age of 12 he was brought into SM Entertainment through a televised talent search with Moon Hee Jun and Kangta from H.O.T. as judges. His vocals won over the judges and procured him thorough training for the next six years. After three years of training, he was supposed to debut, but puberty caused his voice to change and he was unable to sing until it ended after another three years. After six years, he debuted as Xiah Junsu (Xiah is pronounced Shee-ah in Korean). Xiah is the stage name that Kim himself chose, explaining to his fans that the name was short for "Asia", as Asia is pronounced "ah-shee-ah" in Korean. "Xiah" would be an implication of his desire to become not only a star in Korea, but also a star recognized all throughout the continent.

2008: 3rd Japanese Album and 4th Korean Album

TVXQ started off the year with the release of their 16th Japanese single "Purple Line", written by the Korean composer of TVXQ's previous hits "Rising Sun" and ""O"-Jung.Ban.Hap.", on January 16th. "Purple Line" topped the Oricon Weekly Chart, becoming the group's first #1 on the weekly charts in Japan; TVXQ became the first foreign male group to accomplish this feat [27]. The group also promoted the single in Korea, where a Korean version of the song was released. The following week, the group released its third Japanese album, entitled T. As an exclusive extra, the group included "Kiss Shita Mama, Sayonara" ("Kissしたまま、さよなら") which was composed and written by the members Micky Yuchun and Hero Jaejoong, and their own version of "LAST ANGEL" in the album. T debuted on Oricon charts as #2.

Rhythm Zone, a side label of Avex, created a new marketing strategy for TVXQ by releasing five additional singles in February and March 2008 in consecutive weeks after the release of the album T. Each single contained a member's solo and a song that was part of "TRICK", which was on the T album.

On March 28th, TVXQ was appointed the "Goodwill Ambassador for Asia" by Universal Studios Japan to promote the attractions of USJ[28].

The group released its 22nd single, "Beautiful You / Sennen Koi Uta (千年恋うた‎‎)" on April 23, 2008. The single debuted at number one on the Oricon daily and weekly charts, becoming TVXQ's third single to reach that position on the daily charts and second single to reach that position in the weekly chart. The group thus became the second non-Japanese Asian artist to do so, the first being Taiwanese artist Ouyang Feifei (歐陽菲菲), 24 years and 5 months ago.[29][30].

On May 17, 2008, TVXQ performed at the 6th Korean Music Festival in Los Angeles, California. They also took part in ensemble encore performances of "Balloons" and SMTown's "Let's Go on a Trip." In addition, the group performed as the closing act at the 14th Annual Dream Concert at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul on June 7, 2008. On June 12th, TVXQ ended their 2nd Asia Tour in Beijing with a performance for over 200,000 fans; the tour had begun on February 23, 2007 in Seoul, and spanned 13 performances covering Taipei, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Beijing. On top of that, their two separate live tours in Japan during 2007 and 2008 drew crowds of 55,000 and 150,000, respectively, for a total of 390,000 audience members attending concerts.[31]

On July 22, 2008, TVXQ became the first non-Japanese Asian artist to have three number one hits on the weekly Oricon singles chart, when their single "Why Did I Fall In Love With You? (どうして君を好きになってしまったんだろう?)" attained the number one position with weekly sales of 68,000 copies.[32] On June 22, 2008, TVXQ was invited to perform at Avex's 20th anniversary general meeting of stockholders at the Saitama Super Arena. TVXQ, which established itself as the face of Avex, was among the performers at the event. Other performers included singer and songwriter Noriyuki Makihira, TRF, and seven-member dance vocal group Exile.[33] In Japan, TVXQ was also listed at #16 in the Most Searched Male Artist when Yahoo! Japan released its 2008 Search Word Ranking for the first half of the year.[34]

TVXQ was also chosen as the new faces of the Lotte Duty Free Shops (DFS). A Lotte DFS representative explained that TVXQ was a well-known group all across Asia, so they believed that TVXQ was the most suitable choice as spokespeople for the Lotte Duty Free Shops. Ads that TVXQ shot for the company will be released in November, which is also when the group begins participating in various events sponsored by Lotte DFS.[35]

On September 21, 2008, TVXQ performed a showcase event entitled TVXQ’s "Giving Young Adults Hopes and Dreams-Fall Mini Concert" for the release of their fourth studio album. It was located in front of City Hall, Seoul Plaza. This was TVXQ's first public performance for their fourth album; they performed the title song, "주문 (Mirotic)".[36]

The group's 4th Korean album entitled "MIROTIC" was released on September 26th, 2008; it was originally scheduled for release on September 24th, but was delayed due to the pre-order amount of 330,000 albums. The title song of the album, "주문 (Mirotic)", was composed by Remee, Troelsen and Lucas Secon, who also wrote "Eat You Up" off of BoA's U.S. debut album "Look Who's Talking". Kenny Wormald, who has worked with Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown and Christina Aguilera, was put in charge of choreography of the title track, "Mirotic" which was unveiled online on September 19 through major music portals including Melon, Dosirak and Soribada.[37]

Two days after its launch in music stores, "Mirotic" rose on music sale charts. According to Hanteo charts, the album has risen to #1 on its yearly chart. The album has also topped Hot Tracks, Yes24, and other music sale charts.[38]"MIROTIC" is currently the best selling album of 2008 in Korea.[39]

The Japanese version of the title song, entitled "呪文 -MIROTIC-", was released on October 15th and became the group's fifth single to reach the number one position on the Oricon Daily charts. It also became the group's fourth Japanese single to reach number one on Oricon's weekly chart, breaking their own record.[40][41]

The group has also done a cover of the popular One Piece intro We Are by Hiroshi Kitadani [2]

TVXQ have also been cordially invited to the prestigious Japanese Kohaku Music Festival. It is a highly regarded honor for any artist and a feat achieved only by the most successful musicians of the year. They will be singing and competing alongside Japan's top acts near the end of December 2008.

Second Korean album Rising Sun-2005

During 2005, TVXQ expanded its career into Japan. The group marked its official debut in Japan with the release of the single Stay with Me Tonight on April 27, 2005. [5] (Earlier in the year, the English version of their single "Hug" and their first Korean album Tri-Angle had been released in Japan without much attention).

TVXQ continued to release two additional singles entitled "Somebody to Love" and "My Destiny". While in Korea, the group released its second Korean album Rising Sun, which ranked #1 on the monthly charts and #4 for the yearly sales, and continues to chart in the top 100. Due to demand, the album was officially released in other foreign countries in 2007[6]. Weeks before the album's release in Korea, Hero faced a leg injury which prevented him from dancing in the Rising Sun music video or on stage performances and from taking part in some of the album's promotional activities. For group dance sequences on stage he was instead replaced by another dancer.

TVXQ later released a joint single album with label-mate Super Junior, Show Me Your Love which also debuted as #1 on the monthly charts[7]. In addition, the group began acting careers in Banjun Theater drama episodes. Micky Yuchun and U-Know Yunho appeared in guest acting roles for the Nonstop 6 (Rainbow Romance) series. At the end of the year, TVXQ received the Best Music Video award for the song "Rising Sun" and the People's Choice Award at the 2005 Mnet KM Music Video Festival. [8]

On June 14, 2005, TVXQ and BoA were appointed as PR spokespeople for the city of Los Angeles in the United States.

Debut 2003

Before debut, there were several tentative names for the group. Each member was to come up with ideas for the name of the group. The three names suggested were Oh Jang Yook Bu (오장육부, the five visceras), Jun Muhk Go, (전설을 먹고 사는 고래, A Whale That Eats Legends), and Dong Bang Bul Pae (동방불패, the Korean title of Ashes of Time).[3] The group decided on Dong Bang Bul Pae, and Lee Soo Man asked the film's director for permission to use the name. In the end, however, the name was rejected because its Hanja was not aesthetically pleasing, and the group name was changed instead to Dong Bang Shin Ki.

TVXQ made their first appearance on December 26, 2003 during a BoA Showcase. They performed their debut song "Hug" as well as an a cappella rendition of "O Holy Night" alongside BoA. The group released two singles ("Hug" and "The Way U Are"), accompanied by photo books in the following year. TVXQ reached #1 on Korean music charts in three months after their debut. In October 2004, the first album Tri-Angle was released.

Their official fan club derives its name from the Cassiopeia constellation near the Little Dipper. The constellation consists of 5 main stars, and TVXQ has 5 members. When traced on a computer keyboard, "TVfXQ" resembles Cassiopeia.

SM Entertainment once considered adding a Chinese member to the group and rotate members to help boost popularity in other countries, as hinted in The 3rd StoryBook - TVfXQ!. The purpose would have been to branch each member into different solo activities, or possibly combine other trainees into the group.[4] However, the idea was abandoned due to opposition from fans who threatened to boycott SM Entertainment products.

Musical style

Although TVXQ was initially marketed as an a cappella group, most of the group's music is mainstream K-pop and J-pop. Their debut single "Hug" was a bubblegum pop song, but their follow up single "The Way U Are" was a dance/R&B number, complete with stylized outfits and choreographed dance moves. However the song of their first album, '믿어요(I Believe...)', was a ballad. TVXQ concluded the year with a Christmas album that also had an a cappella version of "Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring".

With consecutive releases, they have not moved from this formula, as their second and third albums have had a similar mixture without moving outside of the mainstream. The second album's singles, for example, included a dance song (their first release) and a ballad (their follow up). The third album's releases have been dance, ballad and pop tracks. The group also recorded a cappella tracks for official albums released in both Korea and Japan, in which they rearrange original songs as a cappella versions. In the 13th single released in Japan, TVXQ arranged their debut single 'Hug' as an a cappella track and performed it in their 2nd Live Tour in Japan.

In Japan, the group's image and music has shifted towards a different market from the one in South Korea. Owing to their more mature fan base in Japan, TVXQ has gravitated towards a cappella and melodic pop songs rather than the heavy and fast pop tunes, coupled with intensive dance choreography, that are commonly seen in their usual songs in South Korea.

Super Junior- K.R.Y.

Super Junior K.R.Y, created in late 2006, is a trio formed by Super Junior members Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Yesung. The label discovered that these three members developed a particular persona and subsequent fan-base that was separate from the rest of the group, and how they also had similar musical qualities. The label therefore grouped these three members together to perform particular songs to target a particular audience. Being amongst the most vocally powerful members of Super Junior, Super Junior-K.R.Y are credited to singing mournful ballads, a style that has proven very popular in recent years although stagnation in the style's development is causing it to lose its once fresh evocative power.
K.R.Y's first official performance was on November 5, 2006 on KBS's Music Bank. They have participated in the original soundtrack of the tvN drama Hyena with a total of three tracks, including the main theme. The trio also contributed tracks in two additional original soundtracks, one track in both the soundtracks of Snow Flower and Billy Jean Look at Me. Unlike Super Junior's other sub-units, K.R.Y has not officially released a single or album, only participating in collaboration albums and original soundtracks.
